St. Thomas the Apostle, a Galilean fisherman, was one of Jesus’s 12 apostles. He is often referred to as “The Twin” (John 20:24). When Jesus said he would go to Bethany, the other disciples warned Him of the dangers He would face, while Thomas proved his courage and devotion saying, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him” (John 11:16). Thomas also showed weakness and doubt as well upon hearing news of Jesus’s resurrection. He said, “Unless I see in His hands, the imprints of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). However, once he came face to face with the risen Lord, he cried, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). It is said that Thomas spent the last days of his life preaching the Gospel in India where he was martyred.<\/p>\n
